How to Measure a Drawer for a Custom Organizer

What you need

A rigid tape measure or metal ruler works best. Soft sewing tapes can flex and under-measure. Aim for the nearest millimeter or 1/16 inch.

Step 1 — Empty the drawer

Clear everything out so you can see the full interior floor and the true inside faces of each wall.

Step 2 — Interior width

Measure left to right between the inside faces of the side walls. If the drawer has tapered sides or hardware protruding, use the narrowest usable opening where the organizer will sit.

Step 3 — Interior depth

Measure front to back from the inside of the drawer front to the inside of the back wall. Do not include the thickness of the drawer face that sits outside the cabinet.

Step 4 — Usable height

You have options here. Some people prefer the heigh of the divider to align with the top of the drawer. But others want the divider to be half the height of the drawer. whatever works for you, we will build it! if you want a full size, just measure from the drawer floor up to the top of the drawer wall.
